matt-is-just-around-the-corner:

Just want to share this to everyone:

Here’s a checklist of everything I hope and DREAM to write. I have already crossed out a few.
Some are easy , some are difficult and some can be ridiculously difficult but hey its good practice! :)

Some are familiar and some are old school!

Click the link to see the definition and format, this is from a list of a friend of mine, who has taught me so much over the months. She even supplied samples of her own .

poetic hubris: Love in the Wasteland Link post

Love in the Wasteland
‘The optimist thinks this is the best of all possible worlds.
The pessimist fears it is true.’
-Robert Oppenheimer

To celebrate my reaching of the 400 follower mark I am opening my submit box to submissions to THIS contest-

“Love in the Wasteland’
Imagine our society collapsing, a nuclear holocaust, an unstoppable illness, the economy becoming obsolete, people returning to nature- however you view the end of our world as it is and then set yourself in the resulting ‘wasteland’.

Write however it feels natural to you- prose, poetry, microfiction, concrete poems and so on and leave your entry in my SUBMIT BOX.

One week from now the entries will close- 12PM GMT on the 13th of May.
Three winners will be chosen-

One by me
One by Izzy
One by public vote.
It would be helpful if some blogs could spread this around to give everyone a chance to take part- Spilled Ink, Exhaling Catalysts, Rejects Corner etc.

I would just like to say thank you to everyone who has supported my assault on tumblr over the last year! Let’s hope the next one brings even more awesome people into the fold.

August is Over: Gonna try this thing... Link post

Staff note: I dare you :P

august-is-over:

And maybe you guys should try it with me. So, what you do is you turn your phone off for an entire 24 hours. Put away your laptop and iPad and whatever else connects you to a social realm. Take a day to yourself. And see how you feel after, see who noticed you were gone, see who txt you and even though you didn’t reply who continued to check in. See who missed you. Who cares. And will always do. Sometimes we get confused about who really matters to us. We start to believe someone cares, when really they don’t even acknowledge your existence unless you make it shown. All the while we forget about the ones who really care.

black fumes of skin so gently bled: my first and likely only anon/non-anon challenge. i think. Link post

cordeliagablewrites:

Hi.  I like to blog things on my blog.  A lot of it takes a creative bent, and sometimes, I’ll write in the abstract or fiction.  I’ve found, however, that my most successful posts or writings are usually when I’m just writing down my honest to goodness thoughts about real life experiences—in a creative way.  I’ve seen a lot of “writers” on Tumblr who churn out a bunch of “writing” that sort of disappears with the rest of my dash; but every once in awhile, the same “writer” will post something that’s just a journal entry that knocks my socks off.

So…here’s my challenge, should you choose to accept.  I’ll be turning my submit option on in a few: drop me a journal entry from April 11, [insert whatever year you like].  The key is to make it honest, with the same voice you would use to write an old friend or buddy or even yourself.  I’ll be posting my top 5 favorites (assuming I even get that many responses….) later on this evening.  Prizes include my thanks and adoration.  And hearts.

Yea!

Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me Too: A Challenge Of Sorts Link post

thestoryofscars:

Hello my fellow bloggers,

I’ve been thinking about existence a lot lately. If any of you guys really do read me, you might realize that a lot of my writing is center around the death of my friend Bret, suicide, depression.

What’s mostly been on my mind is what life would be like if I didn’t exist, at all. What I would like you lovely writers to do is write a piece about what it would be like if you were never born, or if someone you know was never existed.

Be creative with it if you choose. It can be prose, poetry, whatever. You can draw it out, I don’t care. Make a video, make a song, whatever you like. Please participate and I’ll love you forever. I’ll like every piece, I promise.

Tag it as thevoidchallenge, and if I don’t see it, let me know.

You may also put it in my submit box, which is make your mark on my blog.

I love you guys, and I hope that you have a good day/night.

Thank you <3

Heroes Welcomed: Anon Contest: Match Ups Link post

heroeswelcomed:

As requested by the lovely Coco (mylifeinitalics) I’ll start off the new year with an anon contest. If you’re new to anon challenges/contests then the rules are simple:

  1. Write in any form (prose, poetry, opinion piece, whatever) on a specific topic
  2. Write it in my ask box and ask box only.
  3. Send it anonymously (my anon is on). I will delete anything with a name attached to it so please double check.

The topic? Any of the below. You can mix and match or even add your own random match ups. This was inspired by a previous post I wrote about watchingCowboys versus Aliens.

  • Nun versus Gangster
  • Dick Cheney versus Zombie
  • Hobo versus Vampire
  • Godzilla versus Power Ranger
  • Decepticons versus Winston Churchill
  • Batman versus Osama Bin Laden
  • Voldemort versus the Economic Crisis
  • Ballerinas versus Monster Trucks

I’ll list my top five favorites and give five honorable mentions. I’ll list all of the participants as well. The Prize? I’ll create a page on my blog with all of the winner’s posts and keep it for 30 days (The posts they’ve posted from the end of the contest till the end of the 30 days). This will most likely have them on my crush list as well.

Have fun.

DEADLINE: You have until Jan. 3 @ 3:00pm (Eastern North American time) which gives you 48 hours.

Lilys of the Field: lilysofthefield: The Collective Introduction Contest.I want you to... Link post

lilysofthefield:

lilysofthefield:

The Collective Introduction Contest.

I want  you to write the introduction for The Collective.
So I am proposing this contest.

Here are some basic rules:

  1. do not mention any specific writers.
  2. this is not from your personal perspective or experience

Submit an introduction to The Collective.

Remember that with this book, I have collected pieces of writing from writer’s who have written through their blog, sharing pieces of themselves with their followers.

The writing community has become more than just a blog to share poetry and prose, to some it’s become family, good friends, and a place to feel safe.

Get creative.

The deadline is Tuesday, January 17th, 2012 at 11:59pm (central)

The winner, the piece I choose to be published in The Collective, will win a free copy of the book when it is released.

This contest is completely anonymous. Lilly (poeticallyundead) will collect all of the submissions and make corresponding numbers to who submitted and the piece they submitted then email me all of the submissions. When I choose a winner, I will tell her which number and she will tell me who it belongs to.

If you have any questions, do not bother her with them, ask me here.

Go to this blog and submit here[you do not have to follow that blog]

  • THAT IS THE ONLY PLACE SUBMISSION WILL BE ACCEPTED AT.
  • (not the email, or not into my blog personally) {you will be immediately disqualified

Anon Challenge Winners: Little Spoon on Death’s Bed

whoartgos:

I love all you. I’m so grateful for all the submissions! It’s been a pleasure reading them over the past couple of days. Now comes my least favorite part, picking “winners.”  Please send me a message to claim yur piece (even if you dont want me to publish which one was yours, i still want to thank you individually) ok enough stalling.

First Place  onnothingandeverything
little spoon on death’s bed: end scene: diminutive metallic perimeter / partially enclosed in/ the bending embrace of another,/final minutes dripping/in laboured ticks,/as time slips/ through grieving fingers/room gets colder/ as heavy lids fall/closing velvet curtains/ on love’s last breath-/ an empty spoon is/ all that’s left

Second Place thewistfullydeadseemgenerous
I’ve always been cuddled and kempt, embraced with the warmth; it hurts worse than dying now that I’ve been cold. Clothed and covered with unfriendly sheets, the soothing annoyances drift me to sleep. My lover works to fix my barren departure. Little Spoon on Deaths Bed, missing her Big Spoon left empty.

 Third Place: girlbrokendown
I was bundled in you, helpless, using your body to shield my broken one from the air around us that had become heavy, noxious from the fumes of destruction from collapsed homes void of voices and empty shadows at decaying dinner tables covered in asbestos mingling with concrete particles from the walls we had all too easily trusted to protect us but it was all useless now, the earth was degenerating from its core in number sequences because we had overloaded our records with speed fuelled growth while we exonerated our greed through shifting images of how we wished to appear so the emptiness had perforated our skin, poisoning the atmosphere in small enough increments to go unnoticed while everything that made us human eroded with the way we ceased to feel and it was too late now, time was elapsing before us despite your stoic efforts to maintain composure, insistant that you would insulate me from fate to veil your fears that we were just two little spoons on a death bed looking for the last bit of calm remaining in each others arms

Fourth Place
Every night I died sharing my bed with a spoon. Strung out between skyscrapers of the soul. I was Death with a spoon in my bed. I was Death until it emptied me - and the only thing left was a little spoon in death’s bed.

Fifth Place  ofmiceandmisanthropes
Cry me a river, she said. My tears stumbled out of their prison in a dazed manner. They tripped and fell face first on my cheeks. They slid their way across the vastly frozen desert that was my face and you scooped them up with your spoon of words. You emptied them into a glass full of our love and you stirred them for a final drink on your death’s bed. Cry me a river, she said.

1st Place - coffeeand-nights

Hooked. I used to sew through my skin, watching it thread back and forth. Creating pretty little patterns with multiple colors; it was avant garde. But then I saw other artists creating masterpieces on their own skin and I was no longer cool. I needed to rise…
