I watched Sean Connery cry alongside “Auld Lang Syne”. Two winters before life took on an unexpected nature. And though I was young and naive and reckless know I always look for the gasp. The mind fuck that comes from speeding iron and I may be a long way off but it’s a start.
Editor’s Note: I’m not gonna lie. I wish I was this sexy. Sex appeal like this is worth the price of a shirt (and this happens to be a killer shirt!)

The Inner Condition: Why Does Every Girl In Teen Fiction Need A Boyfriend? Link post

I love to read. It is a fact that my house contains more books than my room does clothes. And as a slightly shopaholic teenage girl I can boast this to be a lot. In the past years I have collected many novels aimed at girls of my age. (Thankfully this phase is over and I have overpowered my small collection of supernatural shame with classics such as Shakespeare, Dickens, and my beloved Edgar Allan Poe) And I have a pet peeve when it comes to these books. A main requirement is a romantic interest. Always. A girl describes herself as plain but is found irresistible by every cliché teenage dreamboat they encounter. She must be this “witty” (though they are rarely successful at this) “deep” girl who believes she is average in every possible way.
This girl often has a friend who wants to be more than friends or a troublesome ex with unresolved issues and of course the boy who she has a combative “I will act like I hate you but secretly I want to rip your clothes off” relationship with.
Now I am in no way opposed to romance as a part of a story, I’m not a wet blanket. I am simply irritated by the fact that even in today’s society of gender equality, girls and women seem to need at least one man to flirt with, be saved by and ultimately rely on in one way or another. I have found that most kickass females in young adult literature have been written by men. Take Max Ride, a creation by James Patterson (an amazing author), whilst she has a romantic interest or two, they aren’t core aspects of the story, she’s far too busy kicking backside and defending her family to be making out with her morose companion. I much prefer a girl like that to Bella Swan and her damsel in distress bull.
I don’t see why women in literature can’t decide at some point in the book, “you know what, screw this I have my own dreams” and decide that pandering after a boy, as good as his ass must look, isn’t for them. Or even a lesbian heroine to shake things up a bit? I would find that far more interesting than another testosterone infused love triangle and the teen angst it brings along with it.
In conclusion, Stephanie Meyer needs to attend some feminist rallies and teenage girls everywhere should put down those books and pick up something that doesn’t teach them to focus their lives on attractive men.
Editor’s Note: Congrats :D

Reblogged from reversedrainstorm March 31st, 2012 63 notes #articleCoerulescens: Ten rape prevention tips: Link post
1. Don’t put drugs in women’s drinks.
2. When you see a woman walking by herself, leave her alone.
3. If you pull over to help a woman whose car has broken down, remember not to rape her.
4. If you are in an elevator and a woman gets in, don’t rape her.
5. When you encounter a woman who is asleep, the safest course of action is to not rape her.
6. Never creep into a woman’s home through an unlocked door or window, or spring out at her from between parked cars, or rape her.
7. Remember, people go to the laundry room to do their laundry. Do not attempt to molest someone who is alone in a laundry room.
8. Use the Buddy System! If it is inconvenient for you to stop yourself from raping women, ask a trusted friend to accompany you at all times.
9. Carry a rape whistle. If you find that you are about to rape someone, blow the whistle until someone comes to stop you.
10. Don’t forget: Honesty is the best policy. When asking a woman out on a date, don’t pretend that you are interested in her as a person; tell her straight up that you expect to be raping her later. If you don’t communicate your intentions, the woman may take it as a sign that you do not plan to rape her.

Sound Advice from Andrew WK Makes Me Love Him Even More
- Advice Seeker: I'm dating a guy who refuses to give up on his dreams of rock stardom. While it's admirable in a way, I need a little bit more stability if we're going to make this work. How can I gently break this to him?
- .
- Andrew WK: Don't you dare say anything to him about giving up his dream. You're not the right person for him. Never ask someone to give up on their dream just so you can feel more stable. It's his choice and his choice alone, no matter how ridiculous his dream may seem to you, or to society, or even to himself. Dreams make humans into self-realized individuals. Your only responsibility is to love everything about him, including his dreams. The idea of "making this work" sounds more like a way to make his life more boring and predictable. At worst, it's a genuine sadistic desire to control someone else because your own life feels out of control — or a cruel need to dominate and break someone's spirit for the sake of your own peace of mind. Look for stability and peace of mind inside yourself, and not in your relationships or the dreams of others.
The Inner Condition: Cat Stole My Tongue Link post
Editor’s Note: I absolutely love this blog. I have read everything that the columnists have posted. It’s amazing, wonderful, insightful. They bring you into other lives. This is yet another example of something that you want to read. Do it.
Reblogged from innercondition March 8th, 2012 16 notes #cat stole my tongue #David T #writing #writers #writer #story #editorial #article #digest #literature #written word #writers block #creativity #inspiration #journalism #the inner condition #blog #zine #blog zine #blog writers #bloggingI’ve always loved writing, and as a result I’ve never been a loss for what I would say on a piece of paper or computer (the same could be said of my talking, but that’s another story!) So you cold imagine my complete and utter joy when I realized I would e a columnist, writing down my thoughts and feelings for everyone to read and enjoy. The first few came off rather well, simple yet effective, detailed yet to the point. I thought I could just keep them coming and coming and coming, but one day, the unthinkable happened…
I had nothing to say.
I thought to myself, “there’s got to be some topic you’re burning to talk about. Something that really is on your mind that is more than a passing random thought”. I searched my brain far and wide, zoning out in both classrooms and social situations, desperately searching for an idea, something that I could write about. What I didn’t realize is that my topic was staring me in the face.
Nothing! And a whole lot of nothing to be more precise!!!
Writing for me is a very personal and very therapeutic experience. Some people run off their frustrations, some people play music; I write everything down, whether fictional or not until eventually I feel so drained that whatever was bothering has become just another work. It’s like turning my problems or anxieties into stories, or at least someone else’s life, so that way it becomes one less thing to worry about. I find this to be the most useful way of taking my time away from stress and worry, and just get everything out of my system in a positive way.
Writers block, as a result freaks me out, simply because I start to get the feeling like something is really wrong with me if I can’t write. Of course this is not the case, because writing requires the brain, and the brain like any other muscle is a tender and intricate thing. In order for it to work properly it must be worked out, but never pushed or forced, for like a muscle it could tear and break.
While the image is not the best, the idea is properly communicated; the fact that I try so hard to write is what furthers the writer’s block. By taking a deep breath, stopping the staring at the computer screen/blank page, and just let the brain do it’s thing.
The end result is usually something like this, some meditation on life with a clever title, and the moral of the story, which kicks in right about now. The moral, kiddies, is that art can’t be forced, it can only be felt, and once the inspiration takes you, just go with it!
ENDNOTES: When David isn’t killing himself trying to come up with an article until his brain explodes, he can be found at http://daily rebellion.tumblr.com.
Editor’s Note: Please take a moment to read this and watch the video. It is relatively short, and after extensive research, I think it’s worth watching. Lots of people are making arguments against this issue, yet I find that the majority of them are not credible. Most of them speak of the fact that Uganda is no longer in danger, or the US is just getting these people used to having rich white people give them money. This has nothing to do with the goal of KONY 2012. The goal is to capture Joseph Kony. That is it. Invisible Children plans to do this by making him famous. If you feel we should do more research into the situation, do research! I did. Now I want to spread the message. Please just take a moment to recognize that, understand it, and do with the information what you will.
Love,
